Yin was established in response to a community need for specialised strategies for personal safety for women who experience violence or the threat of violence. This includes a holistic approach to well-being, building resilience and increasing personal capacity to be healthy (mind, body, 'spirit') and live well in the world.
Yin (the name) is drawn from the eastern philosophy Yin Yang, focusing on the principle of balance; in this context the power imbalance between gender in today's society and redressing that.
